Ya’ know for a minute there, I thought we were going to move on from all this Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather nonsense, seeing as how they already fought back in August. In addition, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) went and scheduled Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, with the winner expected to face “Notorious” this summer.

No such luck.

Instead, we’re still talking about Mayweather’s transition to mixed martial arts (MMA), which sounds about as ridiculous as McGregor’s transition to boxing. Since the latter already happened, we can’t yet discount the former.

Which may be the only way “Money” earns his respect.

“I went into his game; he should come into mine,” McGregor said. “I know he’s flirting with it, I would have respect for him. I think he it would get his earned respect then if he was to step in. It will follow him for the rest of his days that he did not do it. I said I would do it, and I stepped up and I done it. It’s his time now.”

He certainly seems interested (based on this).

Then again, Mayweather has been trolling the combat sports world for years, drumming up fake opponents, teasing retirements that never happened, and promising a new promotional banner that covers cage fighting.

It’s hard to believe Mayweather, 41, would risk his legacy, as well as his perfect record as a professional fighter — even competing in a different discipline — unless he could earn a billion dollars or something crazy like that.

Oh wait…
