Sam Alvey requested a fight with Gian Villante, and he’s getting it.
What Sam Alvey asks for, Sam Alvey gets. At least it seems that way. After a huge knockout win over Marcin Prachnio at a UFC on Fox event last month, Alvey used his post-fight interview to request a fight with Gian Villante. And the UFC has decided to grant him that, with the two men meeting in a light heavyweight bout in Utica on June 1st.
Newsday was the first to break news of the bout.
The 31-year-old Alvey (32-10, 1 NC, 9-5 UFC) bounced back from a lost to Ramazan Emeev with the Prachnio KO. This will be his sixth UFC fight in 18 months, and his second straight at light heavyweight after a long run at 185 pounds.
Villante (16-9, 6-6 UFC) is coming off a split decision win over Francimar Barroso. That win ended a two-fight losing skid. Villante is currently ranked in the 14 spot at 205 pounds.
The Utica event does not yet have a headliner, and only has a few bouts attached to it so far. It will be the first time that the UFC has brought the Octagon to the upstate New York town.
