Paul Craig Hopes UFC London Win Will Save His Job

UFC London was the final fight on Paul Craig’s contract, and now he has to hope he did enough for a renewal.

Paul Craig’s come from behind (at the literal last second) submission win over Magomed Ankalaev was good enough to win him a $50,000 performance of the night bonus. But the Scottish fighter is more than a little concerned that it wasn’t enough to convince the UFC to renew his contract.

This fight at UFC London was the last on his contract and follows two first round KO losses for the “Bearjew.” Given he was also losing the fight against Ankalaev right up til the final moment, he’s worried the UFC might not be impressed with his overall performance.

“I don’t really know if I’ve done enough to get my contract renewed,” he said after the fight (via MMA Junkie). “We never know. The UFC have got this massive roster, and if I was Dana White and I was watching that, I’d be like, ‘Ah, mate. You’re getting no contract. You can fight for somebody else.’ I’m being genuinely serious. I’m not gonna lie to you and sugar-coat this.”

”But you know what? In another six months, and I’ll be better again. And another six months again, and I’ll be better again. That’s why I’m here. I’m here to get better. I’ve only been doing this sport for five years. There are guys who have dedicated their whole lives to this.”

The unlikely win at UFC London puts Craig at 2-2 in the UFC, and if we were to guess we’d say the UFC will indeed call the Scotsman back … if not under the most lucrative circumstances. The sooner the better as far as Craig is concerned.

“Liverpool’s just around the corner, my face isn’t too bad. I wasn’t knocked out. I’ve no injuries. Why not?”
