Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight …
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Here’s a bizarre addendum to Conor McGregor’s big week in New York City — it turns out his presence served as a distraction, so the press didn’t notice the FBI agents raiding Michael Cohen’s office. Cohen is Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, and the searches were carried out as part of Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation surrounding alleged Russian meddling and collusion in the election, as well as pre-election payments he made to porn star Stormy Daniels for her silence regarding an affair with Trump. According to Vanity Fair:
The paparazzi lingering outside the Loews Regency on Park Avenue, hoping to get a photo of UFC fighter Conor McGregor, appeared not to notice the stream of F.B.I. agents that entered the New York hotel early Monday morning, as they made their way up to the room where the president’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen has been staying.
TLDR and LOL:
Media in NYC didn’t notice FBI agents sneaking into Michael Cohen’s office because they were swarming to get a look at Conor McGregor.https://t.co/1yjE3TNaYP pic.twitter.com/WFvNiUJeFw

Though just a side note to a NYC visit that saw McGregor throw a dolly at a UFC-chartered bus, injuring two fighters, getting three bouts canceled and getting himself arrested, the event is hardly the only connection Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has with President Trump. UFC President Dana White counts Trump a personal friend and spoke at the Republican National Convention where Trump was nominated to run.
For Trump, the latest search intensifies an investigation that has proven to be a thorn in his side since the election.
Does the average American, a casual news consumer who’s not on Twitter, realize all of this is going on? pic.twitter.com/RNDpukFCHh

Without getting partisan, I, too, am curious where Maniacs fall on this issue.

Zabit Magomedsharipov has one of those classic faces that would fit in an oil painting or a Fyodor Dostoevsky novel. His skills would fit into a John Wick movie.

Poor, tough Al Iaquinta. Even WD-40 couldn’t save him.
As far as Khabib striking with Al? According to him, he just watched too much Muhammad Ali during the week.
Why did @TeamKhabib decide to strike with Al Iaquinta in the later rounds of their #UFC223 main event fight? It turns out, he watched too much @MuhammadAli during the week. pic.twitter.com/KeGMNQnTqn

Joe Rogan took it upon himself to apologize — sort of — for his exaggerated critical commentary of striking rounds Khabib was easily winning.

Great ground and pound pad work
It’s me:
BJJ Scout has some solid Khabib studies- here’s the lightweight champion wrestling the light heavyweight champion and the former middleweight champion

Correction, UFC 208 was $2.275 million.

Too bad there’s no way they can afford to pay fighters their win money. https://t.co/o91aoyzDvx

Dana White has Khabib in a special category of fighter reserved for Cowboy Cerrone and Conor McGregor

Stipe Miocic won’t let Stephen Thompson take himself too seriously
He’s also inspirational
Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero don’t have to be enemies to fight each other.
Even if the NYSAC did nothing wrong this weekend, they are far from innocent in boxing- look up this man’s tragic story.

This would have topped the weekend off
New York has a rule that boxing (and therefore MMA) events have to have at least 30 combined rounds. UFC 223 has only 29. Now surely they got a waver but wouldn’t it be the perfect capper if at the last minute the NYSAC stopped the event instead.
