Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches on its upcoming UFC on FOX 29: “Poirier vs. Gaethje” mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, which takes place this Saturday night (April 14, 2018) inside Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

UFC on FOX 29 will feature the “fight of the year” candidate between top-ranked lightweight bangers Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, as well as a welterweight brouhaha pitting Carlos Condit and Alex Oliveira in the co-main event.

Round 1: Condit tries a leg kick, blocks a head kick. Leg kick lands for him, then he tries a flying knee that Oliveira meets with a right hand. Condit low kick. One minute in. They tie up and Oliveira takes him to the cage for a takedown into half guard. Two minutes in. Oliveira staying heavy, looking to chip away. He denies an attempt to regain guard. Now Condit manages to regin guard. Oliveira takes him to the fence and postures out of an armbar, only to wind up on the bottom when he commits to a guillotine. Two minutes to go.

Condit sets up in half guard, snuffs out an attempt to stand. Condit dropping punches. One minute to go. Oliveira gives up his back trying to roll Condit over. Oliveira fighting the choke. He survives the round. 10-9 Condit.

Round 2: Condit fires a head kick, gets taken down into guard. Right hands by “Cowboy.” Nice upkicks from Condit. He tries a fancy kick on the way ip and Oliveira takes him back down a minute in. Half guard for Oliveira. Condit rises for a takedown attempt of his own and eats some heavy elbows before landing on top in guard. Condit with some nice elbows. Condit eats a massive upkick and a scramble ensues. Oliveira bears down on a savage guillotine, forcing Condit to the mat. Condit looks like he’s waiting it out, but Oliveira’s just got too much squeeze, forcing the tap.

185 lbs.: Israel Adesanya vs. Marvin Vettori

Round 1: Vettori opens with low kicks. He tries to flurry, eats a low kick in return. Front kick by Adesanya and Vettori ties up on the cage. One minute in. Vettori looks for some inside trips before they separate. Low kick by Adesanya, Vettori answers two minutes in. Vettori tries a high kick, goes back to the leg. Adesanya tries a Brazilian kick, eats counters. Adesanya looking to potshot as Vettori targets the lead leg. Two minutes to go.

Good body shot by Adesanya, then a body kick marred by an eye poke. Vettori takes some time. They trade in the center, both landing to the body. Low kick from Adesanya. One minute to go. Knee exchange in the clinch. Low kick trade. Nice Casey left hook knocks Waterson back. Casey ties up on the fence and they trade knee inside. Two minutes in. Nasty right hand again sends Waterson retreating. They clinch on the cage. Elbow from Waterson on the break. Two minutes to go.

Wide right hand lands for Casey, who scrambles when Waterson slips. Waterson hits a nice trip into top position with 90 seconds to work. Full guard. Waterson dives in with a right hand. One minute to go. Casey turns for an armbar, can’t get it. Short punches from Waterson.Close. 10-9 Casey.

Round 2: Low kicks from Waterson to start. Casey clubs her with some right hands and presses her against the fence. Good elbows from the Karate Hottie, Casey lands one of her own on the break. One minute in. Waterson connects with a left hook. Casey pursuing on the cage, lands a hard right cross. Waterson leg kick, then a single-leg into guard. Solid shots from Waterson two minutes in. Casey struggling to get inside and land punches. They tie up once again and Waterson drags her down with an outside trip. Casey rolls her over and looks for a belly-down armbar, taking out Waterson’s base. She transitions to a heel hook, can’t get it before Waterson gets her weight on her. Two minutes to go.

Waterson lets Casey up and blasts her with a right cross as she does. Casey still wading in as Waterson pics away with her lead leg. Waterson transitions from a single-leg to a double as Casey sprawls, eating short punches. One minute to go. Casey spins to the back and starts dropping punches before putting in both hooks. Casey transitions to an armbar, but runs out of time. 10-9 Casey.

Final result: Waterson def. Casey by split decision


185 lbs.: Tim Boetsch vs. Antonio Carlos Junior

Round 1: Boetsch swinging early. Jab lands for Carlos, then a leg kick. Harder one a minute in. Carlos with a body kick, Boetsch catches one and knocks him off-balance. They trade in close two minutes in. Low kick by Boetsch. They trade nasty right hands. Boetsch with a nice overhand right and Carlos waves him on. They slug it out until Carlos shoots. Two minutes to go.

Boetsch sprawls, then avoids a back take. Carlos changes levels to dump Boetsch against the cage. Carlos looking for the back, starts dropping heavy right hands with a minute to work. Before long, he locks up the rear naked choke and draws the tap.

Final result: Carlos Junior def. Boetsch by submission (rear naked choke)


170 lbs.: Muslim Salikhov vs. Ricky Rainey

Round 1: Rainey already switching stance, flicks out a leg kick. Another low kick, Salikhov tries a leg kick. One minute in. Rainey fires a head kick, caught. Salikhov takes a finger in the eye, calls a pause. He lands a spinning back kick on the restart. Low kick from Rainey. Salihov shoots in, denied. Two minutes in. Rainey shoots, stuffed as well, tries a head kick on the break. Check hook by the Dagestani. Nice left hook by Rainey. Two minutes to go.

Salikhov tries a wheel kick. Jab from Rainey, body kick comes back. Salikhov catches a kick and tries to open up when Rainey stands. One minute to go. Body kick from Salikhov. They briefly tie up. Rainey ties up on the fence. 10-9 Rainey.

Round 2: Leg kick from Salikhov to start, then a quick throw-down. Spinning back kick to the midsection. Leg kick from Rainey a minute in. They tie up and Rainey looks for shot sin the clinch. Two minutes in. Salikhov looks for counters, tries a spinning back fist. Overhand right from Salikhov. Leg kick and left hook connect. Lazy leg kick from Rainey draws a counter. Two minutes to go.

Straight left from Rainey in his first real burst of the round. Another leg kick from Salikhov. Good knee to the body by Rainey. Spinning back kick by Salikhov. Body kick. One minute to go. Counter overhand right drops Rainey and a couple more piledriver right hands end it.

125 lbs.: John Moraga vs. Wilson Reis

Round 1: Moraga opens with a low kick. They trade rights, then another leg kick. Reis tries to change levels, denied. Left hook by Moraga a minute in. Moraga moving well early. Counter right lands clean. Low kick and he stuffs a Reis takedown. Left hook this time. He’s looking great two minutes in. Head kick attempt. Reis shoots into a guillotine and a scramble ensues. Reis ultimately takes him down into side control. Moraga scrambles up with two minutes to go.

Browne elbows from Moraga, one to the back of the head. He circles off. One minute to go. Left hook by Moraga. Reis fires a left hand, eats a knee, and takes Moraga down. Moraga uses a seat belt grip to look for the back, then an arm triangle before ultimately landing in half guard. Reis hits a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Moraga.

Round 2: Reis counters an uppercut with a right hook. Left hook lands clean for Moraga. Straight rights. Reis with a leg kick. Check hook from Moraga. Reis completes a nice takedown on the fence a minute in. Moraga works his way up and separates. Body kick by Reis, Moraga answers in kind. Brief clinch. Reis lands a good leg kick and shoots on the fence. Back to the center with two minutes to go.

Moraga lands a right downstairs, then a clean knee to the head. Reis shoots in, avoiding a guillotine to settle in half guard. Reis works his way to the back with a minute to go. Moraga spins into guard and goes to work with elbows and punches. 10-9 Reis.

Round 3: Moraga opens with a leg kick and right hand. Body shot. Right hand inside from Rais. Moraga tries to counter a takedown with a throw, winds up on his rear against the fence. One minute in. Moraga rolls to his knees, then his feet. They jockey for position on the cage. Double unders for Reis. Moraga separates and fires a 1-2-3. He tries a head kick. Two minutes in. Moraga digs a right downstairs. Reis lands a combo and shoots on the fence. Moraga sprawls, stands, lands an elbow, rolled to his back. Two minutes to go.

Reis looks for the back as Moraga gets to a knee. Both hooks in. Body triangle. They punch each other with a minute to go. Reis still looking for the choke. Moraga survives until the bell. 10-9 Reis.

185 lbs.: Krzysztof Jotko vs. Brad Tavares

Round 1: Jotko southpaw, Tavares orthodox. Neither man has the range yet. One minute in. Low kick from Tavares. Again as Jotko steps in. No clean punches so far. Two minutes in. Tavares looking for combinations, still chipping at the leg. Good knee by Jotko as Tavares ties up with two minutes to go.

They separate. Still not much from Jotko. One minute to go. Jotko tries to sneak an uppercut through the guard, eats a leg kick. Jotko ducks in, looks for an outside reap, can’t get it but takes Tavares to the cage. Knees to the thigh from the Pole. Tavares winds up on top before the bell. 10-9 Tavares.

Round 2: Tavares tries a 1-2. Low kick lands, Jotko counter misses. Jotko tries a head kick. One minute in. Jotko catches a kick and lands a solid uppercut. Jotko tries a straight left, leans into a big kick. Tavares hops in with a knee and they tie up. Two minutes in. Tavares pressing him against the cage. Not much happening there. Jotko reverses and lands a knee. Two minutes to go.

Tavares reverses in turn. He changes levels, no dice. More jockeying for position. One minute to go. They separate, Jotko looking for punches on the exit. Tavares with a knee to right hand. Jotko swings and Tavares ties up. 10-9 Tavares.

Round 3: Jotko swings a head kick, blocked. Straight left lands for him. Tavares with an overhand inside. Jotko head kick connects. One minute in. Lead uppercut by Jotko. Low kick by Tavares. Knee and right hand as Jotko steps in. Jotko counters a leg kick with a right hand. Jotko catches a kick, drops it as he takes Tavares to the cage, then gets crunched by an overhand right. Tavares swats away with hammerfists for the finish.

155 lbs.: Gilbert Burns vs. Dan Moret

Round 1: And we’re back. Both men throwing hard. One minute in. Burns landing the bigger punches, Moret firing kicks. Two minutes in. Body kick from Burns. Counter right off a Moret low kick. Moret angles off and lands a right hand. Burns with another combo. Two minutes to go.

Low kick from Moret, counter right by Burns. Moret cracks Burns with a right hook and pursues. Burns fires counters and shoots. Outside trip brings Moret down against the cage. One minute to go. Moret gets his back on the fence and stands, only to get dragged back down into half guard. Burns ends the round dropping punches. 10-9 Burns.

Round 2: Burns comes out launching body kicks. Counter left as Moret advances, straight right. Counter right buckles Moreta and Burns comes out swinging, leveling Moret with a savage uppercut. Moret goes down in a heap of misshapen limbs as Burns stands over him in triumph.

Final result: Burns def. Moret by KO (punch)


125 lbs.: Shana Dobson vs. Lauren Mueller

Round 1: Fight Pass is refusing to play for me, so give me a minute.

Round 1: Okami on the advance early. Both men pawing with their jabs. Lima fires a low kick and Okami bowls him over with a double-leg. Lima returns to his feet. One minute in. Okami ultimately moves to the back and drags Lima to the mat. Two minutes in. Lima regains half guard, then full guard. Okami staying heavy. Two minutes to go.

Lima trying to use butterfly hooks to dislodge “Thunder”. Okami trying to pass to munt, still has a hook to deal with. One minute to go. Good right hand from Okami. More solid ground-and-pound. Lima gets to his butt. 10-9 Okami.

Round 2: Lima paying with his jab. Left hand lands upstairs. Okami shoots, sprawled on a minute in. Okami immediately drives back in. Lima ultimately limp-legs out, Okami shoots back in. Browne elbows from Lima, who’s forced to a knee. Two minutes in. Okami stays heavy, forces him to his back and sets up in half guard.

Lima hits a sweep and stands. Okami ducks back in for another takedown attempt. One minute to go. Okami pressing him against the cage. Rear waist lock for Okami. He drags Lima to the mat and latches onto the seat belt control. 10-9 Okami.

Round 3: Lima slings a right hand to start the round. Low kick from Okami, who shoots and transitions from a single-leg to the back. Seat belt control from Okami. He sticks a leg through and puts Lima on his butt, securing back control. One minute in. Lima works his way back to his feet, Okami still attached. Two minutes in. Okami drags him back to his knees. Lima turns to get half guard. Two minutes to go.

Crowd’s not happy. Short punches from Okami, then elbows. Okami looking for mount, can’t get it. One minute to go. Lima holding on, so Okami slams him a couple ties. Okami postures up and bashes away until the bell. 10-9 Okami.

Final result: Okami def. Lima by unanimous decision


265 lbs.: Arjan Bhullar vs. Adam Wieczorek

Round 1: Wieczorek lands a right hand, circling on the fence. Bhullar catches him with a left hook and brings him down with a single-leg into guard. One minute in. Wieczorek controlling his wrists. Short right hands from Bhullar. Two minutes in. Bhullar continues to dig away. Two minutes to go.

Wieczorek unable to stand or set up a submission. Bhullar staying patient with punches and elbows from guard. One minute to go. Referee stands them up. Low kick from Wieczorek. 10-9 Bhullar.

Round 2: Bhullar marching forward as Wieczorek flicks out kicks. Right hand knocks Wieczorek back. Bhullar grabs a body lock and Wieczorek’s mouthpiece falls out for no clear reason, prompting a pause. One minute in. Bhullar changes levels for a takedown into guard. Wieczorek latches onto a kimura and looks to sweep. Wieczorek regains guard, then suddenly locks up an omoplata for a major upset.

Final result: Wieczorek def. Bhullar by submission (omoplata)


135 lbs.: Matthew Lopez vs. Alejandro Perez

Round 1: Plenty of early leg kicks from Perez, who scrambles free of a takedown attempt. Right hand by Lopez. Both land hard left hooks until Lopez takes him down on the fence, immediately transitioning to the back and looking for the RNC. Perez sweeps into top position and gets back to his feet, landing knees. Lopez turns into him and drives in. Two minutes in. They separate. Low leg kick by Perez. Hard body kick and 1-2 land for Lopez, then an overhand right into a takedown. Again he looks for the back with two minutes to go.

One hook in, now the body triangle. Lopez softening him up. One minute to go. Perez fights off the choke. 10-9 Lopez.

Round 2: Perez opens with a jab and body kick, then goes back to the leg. Lopez to the body, checks a low kick. 1-2 from Perez. One minute in. Body shot lands for Perez. Lopez lands a left, denied on a double-leg. Perez leg kick, Lopez left hand. Lopez looking a little labored. Two minutes in. Perez looking for the jab, lands a combo. Straight right, Lopez comes back with a pair of looping hooks. Flying knee attempt from the Mexican. Lopez counters a body kick with a right hand. Lopez shoots in off a Perez knee with two minutes to go.

Perez defends with underhooks and jacks Lopez with a clinch knee. Lopez covering up and just leans forward as Perez tees off on him. The punishment continues until the ref stops it standing.

135 lbs.: Patrick Williams vs. Luke Sanders

Round 1: Williams orthodox, Sanders southpaw. Lots of feints, no real commitment. Low kick from Williams a minute in, then another. 3-2 drops Williams, who pops back to his feet. Sanders staying patient, falls short with a left. Straight left lands and Williams hits a takedown two minutes in, landing a knee on the break. Front kick from Williams, short uppercut in the clinch. Sanders lands a right hook, eats a body kick and 1-2 before Williams ties up and looks for the back. Two minutes to go.

Sanders works his way free, lands a combination. Straight left connects and he clinches up, fighting off trips. They separate. Sanders drills him with another combo on the fence. He sprawls on a Williams takedown with a minute to go. Knee to the body. Sanders cuts him with a short elbow before separating. Williams looks gassed already. Sanders tries to open up on the cage. 10-9 Sanders.

Round 2: Williams’ cut is still leaking. Low kicks land for him, head kick goes high and Sanders digs a knee to the body. Sanders head kick blocked and Williams clinches a minute in. Sanders slips around to a rear waist lock before they separate. They trade lead hands on the fence. Williams putting his hands on his knees, lands a nice counter right anyway. Sanders with a glancing right hook met by a body shot. Two minutes in. Body kick by Sanders. Williams to the body as well. Straight left comes back at him. Good head movement from Williams and they clinch. Two minutes to go.

Nasty leg kick by Williams after Sanders slips. Back to the clinch. Elbow from Sanders on the break, then a leg kick. One minute to go. Low kicks. Overhand right rocks Sanders and Williams follows up with a body kick. Takedown at the bell. 10-9 Williams.

Round 3: Leg kick from Williams. Some more. One minute in. Sanders checks one, eats another after trying a head kick. Now punting the inside of the leg. Two minutes in. I don’t think Sanders has landed a punch yet this round. Williams to the body. Straight right upstairs. Now a 1-2 lands for Sanders. Two minutes to go.

Left hand drops Williams against the fence. He rises, takes a right hook. More low kicks from Williams, Sanders tries to go high. One minute to go. Williams presses forward with a two-piece, eats one in return. Good left hand by Sanders. Williams cracks him with another right at the bell. 10-9 Williams.

Final result: Sanders def. Williams by unanimous decision
