Top featherweights Cub Swanson and Renato Moicano will fight at UFC 227 on August 4th.
An intriguing featherweight matchup has been added to UFC 227 on August 4th, as Cub Swanson will take on Renato Moicano.
Lance Pugmire of The Los Angeles Times first reported the potential matchup earlier this month. Both men campaigned for the fight, with Swanson wanting it to go down on the UFC 227 card, whilst Moicano was more eager to fight earlier at UFC 226.
Swanson (25-9) is currently on a two-fight losing streak, most recently losing a decision to Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs Lee. Before that, Swanson faced Brian Ortega in December 2017, he lost the fight by second round submission. The 34-year-old is without a win in over a year, last having his hand raised against Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night 108.
Moicano (12-1) last stepped foot into the octagon at UFC 223 in April, when he secured a unanimous decision victory over Calvin Kattar. Much like Swanson, Moicano was submitted by Ortega prior to his win over Kattar, it was the Brazilian’s first loss in MMA after going undefeated for eleven fights.
UFC 227 takes place on August 4th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The card will be headlined by a UFC bantamweight title fight between current champion TJ Dillashaw, and former champion Cody Garbrandt.
