Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., commonly known as Snoop Dogg, enjoys watching organized fighting, including MMA. He is a longtime weed-smoking friend of Nick Diaz, and even commentated Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender series show as part of the “Snoopcast” alongside former WEC champion Urijah Faber. He took a good deal of heat from professional fighters for that commentary, which was perceived by a number of fighters as disrespectful. What really ticked off a number of fighters, though, most notably Matt Brown, was a video he posted mocking Conor McGregor after Mayweather knocked him out.

The 49-year-old rapper is putting his hands where his mouth is, getting in the gym and training his boxing. While he doesn’t look great, exactly, he certainly looks better than a lot of 49-year-old strapping on gloves for the first times. He clearly has some understanding of boxing and is throwing his punches in combination, moving his head away from return punches. I’m not about to disparage anyone for going out there and actually training.

He probably shouldn’t take Matt Brown’s challenge at any time though, now or six months from now.

Quick Hits

My notes on stories from today: Darren Till should be a middleweight; 165 is the only new weight class I support; Cyborg taking anger management classes could be sketch comedy gold; Good on Till and Thompson for drawing the numbers and absolutely wowing the watching crowds; and anyone who didn’t think the Mountain could crush McGregor is sipping something strong.

Rico Verhoeven and Marat Grigorian seem like terrifying human beings inside a ring.
