A former title challenger at 155 pounds is set to make his return to the division in October.
After three fights at featherweight, it looks like Gray Maynard is going to return to the division where he has had the most UFC success. The former two-time 155-pound title challenger will go back up to that weight class when he meets veteran grinder Nik Lentz at UFC 229 on October 6th.
The news was confirmed by the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Maynard (13-6-1, 1 NC) dropped to featherweight in 2016 after a string of 155-pound losses, and was a bit uneven there. He went 2-1 against lower-level competition, only dropping a very dull decision to Ryan Hall. This will be his first fight since July 2017, where he won a decision over Teruto Ishihara.
Lentz (28-9-2, 1 NC) had his own extended run at 145 pounds as well before returning to lightweight in late 2015. He has gone 3-2 since them, most recently dropping a decision to David Teymur in June.
UFC 229 will go down in Vegas on October 6th and will be headlined by a huge lightweight title fight between champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former champ Conor McGregor.
