According to Rose Namajunas’ coach Trevor Wittman, the UFC strawweight champion is still traumatized from Conor McGregor’s UFC 223 bus rampage last April.
Conor McGregor’s UFC 223 rampage this past April had left a bad taste in some people’s mouths, to say the least. But for those who were in the bus that “The Notorious” threw a dolly at, the repercussions were more severe.
UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, for one, was so traumatized that she had thoughts of pulling out of her scheduled title defense against Joanna Jedrzejczyk. And when McGregor issued an apology, “Thug Rose” was having none of it.
Five months has lapsed since the incident, and McGregor had already pled guilty to disorderly conduct, and managed to avoid any jail time. But according to coach Trevor Wittman, Namajunas remains traumatized from the incident.
“She doesn’t leave her house,” Wittman said on Monday’s episode of Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN (transcript via MMA Mania). “It’s still there. She doesn’t go in public places. When you’re in a public place and there’s people everywhere, you’re going to be like ‘Oh my god, what could happen?’”
“Like if you’re involved in a 9/11 bombing, it’s gonna be hard to be in a city scenario. Every time you get in an elevator you’re gonna think of it.”
Namajunas, who currently doesn’t have a fight booked and is not expected to return until 2019, has also been seeing a therapist to help her cope with the ordeal. As for McGregor, he has gotten his career back on track, as he is now scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 229 on October 6th in Las Vegas.
