‘The Mauler’ continues to stump for a fight with Jon Jones once the former light heavyweight champ’s USADA suspension ends in November.
After over a year of mystery and anticipation, Jon Jones’ USADA suspension is set to expire at the end of October — a situation that has caused much controversy and conversation. Somewhat lost in that conversation has been Alexander Gustafsson’s call out of the former light heavyweight champion. And hey, can you blame fans? With all the ‘USADA is crooked! Jones is a snitch!’ screaming, who’s going to notice a ‘Congrats, Jon! Want to fight?’ message?
Well, the heat has calmed down a little on Jones and his suspiciously short suspension. So now Gustafsson is calling him out again:
”Who would u fight if not me champ @jonnybones?!” Alex wrote. “That’s the only fight that makes sense right now! Why wait let’s do it.. let me beat u one more time.”
Jones and Gustafsson fought once before at UFC 165 in September of 2013, a decision win for Jones that was undoubtedly the closest fight of his career. Alas, Jon’s myriad of issues derailed a rematch … until now?
Dana White continues to insist there’s a 0% chance Jones will headline the headline-less UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden on November 3rd, just days after Jon is eligible to fight again. And we almost believe him, what with how complicit that would make the UFC look in Jones’ USADA deke out. But as Jones himself has taught us, you never know what’s going to happen in the UFC.
Regardless, Jones vs. Gustafsson for the vacant light heavyweight belt sure would look good at the top of any card, not just UFC 230.
