Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, perhaps foolishly, though the lightweight division would get back on track after being held hostage by Conor McGregor and his self-imposed hiatus, which started in late 2016 and ended in early 2018 by way of stripped strap.
Then Khabib Nurmagomedov, who claimed the crown with his real estate closing last April, executed a bullfrog leap off the Octagon in the wake of UFC 229, which may draw a lengthy suspension from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
That’s according to UFC President Dana White, who was “disgusted” by the “The Eagle” and his goon squad for their post-fight attack, taking place in the wake of last Saturday night’s (Oct. 6, 2018) headliner in Las Vegas.
“The Nevada State Athletic Commission is going to hand out some sort of fine or suspension and after that we’ll see,” White said after the fight (transcribed by Forbes). “If he gets suspended, it depends on how long his suspension is and yeah, he’s probably going to get stripped if it’s a long suspension.”
At least he won’t be cut from the promotion (like this guy).
Nurmagomedov quickly apologized for his behavior during the UFC 229 post-fight press conference (watch the replay here) and then lambasted the combat sports media for its role in the rise of McGregor and trash talkers like him.
No telling what the commission has in store for “The Eagle.” Any delay in his return will likely put former interim champion Tony Ferguson into the top spot (thanks to this) against the next available contender, which may or may not be “Notorious.”
