“The Gift” is headed to Brooklyn as part of the UFC’s first card on ESPN+.
One of lightweight’s top prospects will return to the cage next month on the UFC’s first card in the ESPN era.
Gregor Gillespie is scheduled to meet Yancy Medeiros in a 155-pound contest at UFC Brooklyn on Jan. 19 in Brooklyn, Newsday reported Thursday.
Gillespie most recently defeated Vinc Pichel by second-round submission in June, marking his fifth UFC win in five Octagon appearances, four of which have ended inside the distance. “The Gift” also holds first-round wins over Jordan Rinaldi and Andrew Holbrook, the latter of which ended in only 21 seconds.
Medeiros is headed back down to lightweight for this fight after a four-fight stint at welterweight, in which the Hawaiian went 3-1. He is coming off a TKO loss to Donald Cerrone, but prior to that, beat Alex Oliveira by third-round TKO in a 2017 “Fight of the Year” candidate.
UFC Brooklyn takes place at Barclays Center. In the main event, flyweight champion Henry Cejudo defends his title for the first time against bantamweight titleholder T.J. Dillashaw in a superfight.
