Mixed martial arts veteran Dan Henderson (26-8) has already had success in his career across two weight divisions fighting at middleweight and light heavyweight, but what would you think of him fighting as a heavyweight?
In a recent interview with the Sherdog.com Radio Network Henderson says he was approached by the Strikeforce promotion about participating in their upcoming World Grand Prix heavyweight tournament.
Henderson says he considered competing, not that he thought he could win but for the sheer challenge of facing fighters who were much bigger than him.
Currently “Hendo” is scheduled to face Rafael “Feijão” Cavalcante on March 5th in Columbus, Ohio for the Strikeforce light heavyweight title, his second Strikeforce title fight in three matches with the promotion.
“They had kind of approached me about fighting in that heavyweight tournament just to see how I’d feel about it. I told them I was open to it. It was interesting. Definitely a huge challenge, and that’s one of the reasons why I’m still in the sport, just to challenge myself. I think there’s a couple of matchups that would have been interesting for me or fun to do. I don’t think I would have won the tournament by any means, but possibly. Of course I said that when I went into that Rings ‘King of Kings’ tournament. I didn’t think I was going to win it, but I was going to do my best.”
