Jon Jones isn’t pleased by the fact that he’s below Daniel Cormier in the pound-for-pound rankings.
The UFC’s last event of the year saw two new champions crowned and caused a lot of upheaval in the pound-for-pound rankings? Elsewhere? Eh, not so much. There’s a new contender at featherweight in Alexander Volkanovski, and Corey Anderson entered the fray at light heavyweight, but this week is really all about Jon Jones.
Jones moved up the P4P list to the two spot, but he’s not amused that he’s still behind his nemesis – Daniel Cormier. He even took to social media to point it out:
Anyway, here are all the changes for the week coming out of UFC 232:
P4P – As mentioned, Jones is up one to two. That’s still behind Cormier though. Khabib Nurmagomedov fell one to three. Tyron Woodley passed Georges St-Pierre for the six spot. Amanda Nunes is up six spots to eight after becoming a double champ. Conor McGregor, Stipe Miocic, and Henry Cejudo all fell a spot each to 9-11. Rose Namajunas is up one to 14. Cris Cyborg hangs in at 15, down four spots.
Heavyweight – Marcin Tybura and Justin Willis flip-flopped the nine and ten spots. Walt Harris enters the rankings at 13, dropping the man he beat, Andrei Arlovski, to 14. Stefan Struve is down one to 15.
Light Heavyweight – New champ means Daniel Cormier drops to the number one contender. Volkan Oezdemir is up one to five. Corey Anderson is up four to six, and is tied with Thiago Santos. Ilir Latifi drops four spots to nine after losing to Anderson. Jimi Manuwa falls one to ten.
Middleweight – Uriah Hall is up one to 13 with his come-from-behind KO of Bevon Lewis. Elias Theodorou drops one to 14.
Welterweight – No changes.
Lightweight – Michael Chiesa’s move to welterweight caused a few fighters to move up, as he is now out of the 155 rankings. James Vick is up two spots to nine. Alexander Hernandez, Francisco Trinaldo, Dan Hooker, and Paul Felder all moved up one spot each from 11-14 respectively. Gregor Gillespie enters at 15.
Featherweight – Alexander Volkanovski rockets up six spots to number four after his huge stoppage victory over Chad Mendes. Mendes fell three spots into a tie for eight. Josh Emmett fell one spot to ten.
Bantamweight – Petr Yan enters on the strength of his win over the formerly-ranked Douglas Silva de Andrade.
Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Bantamweight – Bethe Correia moved from a tie for 11 down to 12 on her own.
Women’s Flyweight – Jennifer Maia is up three spots to 11 despite not fighting since last July. Ashlee Evans-Smith, Mara Romero Borella, and Andrea Lee all fell a spot each to 12-14 respectively.
Women’s Strawweight – No changes.
