Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw, will look to join Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, and Amanda Nunes as the only fighters to hold two UFC titles at the same time.
All he needs to do is take out one of the best Flyweights in the world, as he battles 125-pound champion Henry Cejudo in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 1 this Sat. night (Jan. 19, 2019) in Brooklyn, New York. For “Viper,” becoming the next “champ-champ” is simply an added bonus in his quest to cement his legacy as the greatest of all time.
“It’s not just so much to be the champ-champ,” Dillashaw said at a recent media lunch (via MMA Junkie). “It’s just that I feel that I’m the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I train very hard. I put everything in there, I’m a very well-rounded fighter, and it’s about time to get to prove it.”
Previously chasing a fight against former 125-pound champion, Demetrious Johnson, Dillashaw never had the opportunity to test his skills against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. But now that “Mighty Mouse” is gone, Cejudo is tasked with trying to save the UFC flyweight division from extinction.
Dillashaw is adamant he’s been charged with getting rid of the weight class once and for all, and if he manages to do that while scoring another title, it’s just that much more to add to his legacy.
“I want to show my dominance everywhere and really take that No. 1 spot. I want to be able to have that throne,” he said. “That’s why I was chasing (Demetrious Johnson), and now I’m just chasing my own legacy.”
As far as his much-publicized (and much criticized) cut down to 125 pounds, TJ makes it very clear he feels healthy and everything is going as planned, despite what his biggest critics may say or think.
