News broke earlier this morning that veteran mixed martial arts (MMA) reporter, Dave Meltzer, was detained at McCarran International Airport on Friday after attempting to smuggle a bomb past TSA checkpoints.

Turns out it was just the UFC 234 pay-per-view (PPV) estimates.

“Silva vs. Adesanya” bombed — and bombed hard — with just 175,000 buys, which probably doesn’t come as a surprise when you consider UFC 234 lost its headliner the day of the fight, thanks to Robert Whittaker’s medical emergency.

Sadly, it may not have made a difference.

By comparison, UFC 233 232 pulled 700,000 PPV buys for the return of Jon Jones, which helps explain why UFC President, Dana White, was willing to screw over “Sin City” fight fans when “Bones” ran into drug-testing trouble.

The silver lining, if you can call it that, is UFC 234 nearly doubled up the paltry 95,000 PPV buys Amanda Nunes returned for her UFC 224 win over Raquel Pennington. In addition, the promotion can bounce back with UFC 235 in roughly two weeks, when Jones makes his Octagon return against Anthony Smith.
