We should all have friends who are as forgiving as Robbie Lawler.
The former UFC welterweight champion went nuts on referee Herb Dean after the longtime man in black botched the Ben Askren finish at UFC 235, sending “Ruthless” back into the loss column for a tap he didn’t commit.
See different angles of the stoppage right here.
Shortly after the blown call, Lawler started screaming at Dean for costing him the fight. Then just as quickly as he erupted, he calmed back down and took a more forgiving approach.
Anton Tabuena at Bloody Elbow with the heavy lifting:
Lawler: “What the [expletive] are you doing?!”
Dean: “I thought you…”
Lawler: “I didn’t. What the [expletive]?!”
Dean: [Inaudible]
Lawler: “I know. It’s alright.”
Lawler: “Herb. Herb. Hey. Hey, don’t [expletive] worry about it. You’re a [expletive] hell of a ref.
Dean: “No, man. No. I don’t understand how, like… I saw your arm (go) limp, I grabbed it. But I didn’t know.”
Lawler: “and then I gave you a thumbs up.”
Dean: “I didn’t know. I didn’t see you give me a thumbs up.”
Lawler: “It happens man. If [expletive] happens.”
Promotion president, Dana White, is already talking about a potential rematch; however, Askren has pretty much refused to fight “Ruthless” again, perhaps glad he was able to (somehow) survive their first fight.
