Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is roughly one month away from its UFC on ESPN 3: “Romero vs. Jacare 2” mixed martial arts (MMA) event, scheduled for Sat., April 27, 2019 inside BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida, featuring “Prelims” on ESPN+.
Just like every fight card, the UFC Ft. Lauderdale event comes with an official poster, though I can’t say I remember one that had the Internet as pissed off as this latest offering, which highlights the return of heavyweight Greg Hardy.
Let’s forget about the fact that Hardy is saddled with domestic violence baggage and instead look at his qualifications as a cage fighter. The former gridiron great is 3-1 and has just one UFC fight (and it was a hot mess).
Hardy, 30, lost by disqualification after landing an illegal knee at UFC Brooklyn.
How that performance was good enough to land him what appears to be the UFC on ESPN 3 co-main event is known only to matchmakers, and perhaps this angel, but rest assured the fans were not very receptive to the news.
Here’s a sample:
“This sums up the ufc at the moment. Dude was awful in his last fight let alone the fact he is a pos himself.”
—James Crouch
“Keep saying it: WME is the worst thing that’s ever happened to MMA.”
—Chris Kirk
“If Hardy is the Co Main then this card must be trash. UFC sending the wrong msg.”
—Stoned Pimp
The UFC on ESPN 3 fight card has two former UFC champions to choose from, as well as a couple of power-punching Brazilians in the form of Glover Teixeira and John Lineker. As for Hardy, he doesn’t seem to mind the added pressure ahead of his Dmitrii Smoliakov fight.
“The chaos, the co-main event, that makes me feel comfortable,” Hardy told MMA Junkie. “That’s what I’ve known since I was 16 years old playing in the SEC, big-time football colleges. It never stops. You’re playing Alabama every week, you’re playing the biggest team in the NFL every week, so that’s where I feel more comfortable.”
