A Bellator middleweight title fight between current champion Gegard Mousasi and Rafael Lovato Jr. has been rebooked for the promotion’s London card in June.
Bellator announced the fight on Friday. Mousasi and Lovato were supposed to fight in the co-main event of Bellator 214 in January, but a back injury forced Mousasi out of his second scheduled title defense of the 185-pound belt, and the fight was cancelled.
Mousasi (45-6-2) is currently on an eight-fight winning streak, with his last loss dating back to September 2015 against Uriah Hall. After winning the middleweight belt against Rafael Carvalho in London last year, the 33-year-old successfully defended it against Rory MacDonald winning by second round stoppage.
Since making his MMA debut in 2014, the undefeated Lovato (9-0) has quickly worked his way up to a Bellator title shot after racking up some impressive finishes inside the promotion. The talented Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist is riding consecutive submission wins against John Salter and Gerald Harris.
Bellator London will take place on June 22nd at The SSE Wembley Arena. British welterweight Paul Daley and Irish prospect James Gallagher are also expected to appear on the card.
