Leave it to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 155-pound champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, along with ex-lightweight titleholder, Conor McGregor, to somehow make the Brooklyn bus attack — as well as the UFC 229 post-fight brawl — two of the least offensive things they’ve done throughout their protracted rivalry.

Thanks social media!

Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor back in October in what should have sent both fighters in opposite directions; however, last week’s “Notorious” retirement announcement came with side commentary from “The Eagle.” As you might expect in the fight game, everyone wants to have that “mic drop” moment (and secure fanboy supply).

McGregor tried to land the killing blow with his offensive (and since-deleted) “towel” tweet (see the screenshot here) and now Nurmagomedov has responded in equally vulgar fashion, taking aim at some of the Irishman’s recent tabloid headlines, which include accusations of sexual assault.

Click here if you’re unable to see the tweet.

“Talking shit, this guy is insulting someone’s wife and making fun of her religion and belief,” Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, wrote on Twitter. “He doesn’t realize he’s insulting 1.5 billon Muslims. Religion and family is a no no. You’re fucked Conor, let’s see what the media is going to say now. He’s a rapist, and a bitch.”

When Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended both fighters for brawling at T-Mobile Arena (more on that here), the governing body suggested stiffer penalties for combatants who took trash talk to an inappropriate level. Naturally, fans (and media) were aghast at the “insane” suggestion that speech should be regulated in combat sports, but now the idea doesn’t sound so crazy.

Sorry folks, we just can’t have nice things.
