Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was originally planning a middleweight main event between Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero for its upcoming UFC on ESPN 3 mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, scheduled for Sat., April 27, 2019 inside BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Then “Eraser” got bounced for mysterious reasons (more on that here) and now “Solider of God” will join him on the sidelines, according to a report from AG Fight, after coming down with a debilitating illness (reportedly pneumonia).
ESPN reports that Ronaldo Souza, who replaced Costa in the five-round main event, is unlikely to remain in the headlining act, simply because the promotion can’t drum up a big enough name at 185 pounds to warrant top billing.
“Romero is out and the guy they flew in is running away from me, like always happens to me,” Souza wrote on Twitter.
No word yet from Romero or the promotion on the ESPN main event switcheroo, but considering we only have about three weeks until fight night, expect an update sooner, rather than later.
