It’s time to find out what Sage Northcutt can do outside of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), as the “Super” striker has been tasked with turning away Cosmo Alexandre at the upcoming ONE Championship event on May 17 in Singapore.
Despite winning three straight fights for UFC, including last July’s blistering knockout of welterweight veteran Zak Ottow in Boise, Idaho, Northcutt (11-2) was passed over by Dana White and Co. because “he’s young and needs some work.”
Uh huh.
Alexandre (7-1) is no stranger to longtime fans of Bellator MMA, where “Good Boy” captured five straight wins before appearing sporadically on the regional circuit. The Brazilian transitioned to kickboxing a few years back and recently split a pair of fights under the ONE banner.
He may not be a household name, but he’s a dangerous striker with tons of experience.
Headlining the ONE Championship: “Enter the Dragon” event will be the lightweight title fight pitting newly-crowned titleholder Shinya Aoki (43-8, 1 NC), fresh off last weekend’s submission win over Eduard Folayang, opposite 20 year-old phenom Christian Lee (11-3).
