Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will ask The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) champions Diego Sanchez (TUF 1) and Michael Chiesa (TUF 15) to throw down at the upcoming UFC 239 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sat., July 6, 2019 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s according to ESPN.com.
Sanchez (29-11) appears to have gotten his combat sports career back on track, winning back-to-back fights for the first time since 2011. “The Nightmare” disposed of Craig White at UFC 228, before pounding out Mickey Gall at UFC 235.
As for Chiesa (15-4), he abandoned the lightweight division following a series of brutal weight cuts. “Maverick” made the most of his 170-pound debut at UFC 232, submitting longtime veteran Carlos Condit by second-round kimura.
UFC 239 will be headlined by the light heavyweight title fight pitting reigning division champion, Jon Jones, opposite 205-pound power-puncher, Thiago Santos. In the championship co-headliner, Amanda Nunes defends her bantamweight strap against former champion, Holly Holm.
Expect more UFC 239 fight card announcements in the coming weeks.
