Check out the closing betting odds for tonight’s UFC 236 card, where Max Holloway is favored over Dustin Poirier in their high stakes main event rematch.
It’s fight day! UFC 236 takes place tonight, April 13, from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Bloody Elbow is here to bring you the final betting odds.
The marquee matchup for UFC 236 will be for the vacant interim lightweight title. The UFC’s featherweight champ, and -190 betting favorite, Max Holloway takes on the promotion’s #3 ranked lightweight, and +175 underdog, Dustin Poirier. This fight is actually a high-stakes rematch of a UFC 143 tilt from 2012, where Holloway made his promotional debut as a +425 underdog against a more experienced -545 betting favorite in Poirier. Poirier’s path to victory back then was the ground, pulling off a first-round submission by way of gorgeous triangle armbar from the full mount.
The over/under for this vacant interim title fight has been set at 2.5 rounds. The ‘over’ can be scooped at a favored line of -152 while the ‘under’ is available for the underdog price of +137. Both warriors, Holloway and Poirier, have underrated ground games because they are best known for standing and trading leather. These guys have been knocking out elite fighters like Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, Anthony Pettis, and Jose Aldo. So, it’s not a big surprise to see the betting lines reflect Holloway vs. Poirier 2 not reaching the scorecards. The prop bet ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ rocks a heavily favored moneyline of -215. ‘Fight goes to decision’ hits the underdog mark of +170.
As of Bloody Elbow’s midweek betting odds post earlier this week, ‘Holloway wins by TKO/KO’ was up for grabs at +156 with ‘Poirier wins by TKO/KO’ at +428. Since then, Poirier’s knockout prop has seen some action and has been reduced down to -390. Holloway’s TKO/KO prop has slightly shifted up to +158.
For fun, the betting site William Hill has an available prop bet ‘Both fighters are knocked down’ with an underdog tag of +450. Considering the chances of this Holloway and Poirier being a standup war, this might actually be worth a look. However, Holloway has never been dropped in his MMA career.
Another interim belt will be on the line at UFC 236, this one at 185-pounds. The promotion’s #5 ranked middleweight Israel Adesanya is looking to remain undefeated when he faces the company’s #4 ranked Kelvin Gastelum. The 16-0 Adesanya may give up the edge in terms of having faced elite MMA opposition, but his striking polish coupled with his substantial height and reach advantage makes him a -175 betting favorite. Having already dropped a few matches, the 16-3 Gastelum rogers up as a +165 underdog.
The over/under for this vacant interim title fight has been set at 3.5 rounds. The ‘over’ sits in the favored role with a line of -132, with a +117 comeback on the ‘under.’ The betting lines project that this co-main event will mature late into the bout, but also indicate that it’s going to end early. ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ is available with a favored moneyline of -140, with ‘Fight goes to decision’ in the underdog role at +110.
The UFC 236 main card will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10:00 P.M. ET with the prelims starting at 8:00 P.M. ET on ESPN. The exclusive Fight Pass prelims will begin at 6:15 P.M. ET.
