Alistair Overeem will look to collect his second straight win as he faces Aleksei Oleinik this Saturday (April 20, 2019) inside Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It will be fight No. 16 inside the octagon for “The Reem.”
Before then, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see Alistair’s UFC debut way back in 2011. Tasked with welcoming the hard-hitting big man to the Octagon was Brock Lesnar, who already had six fights inside the eight-sided cage to his credit and was fresh off coughing up his Heavyweight strap to Cain Velasquez.
Overeem, meanwhile, was coming in hot with nine straight victories and was looking to write his next chapter inside the Octagon after competing all over the world in other organizations throughout his combat career.
After a tentative start from both men, Overeem went in and tagged the big man with a knee to the body that visibly bothered the WWE superstar. Going to the well once more, Alistair tagged Brock with a three more knees to the midsection that had him reeling. Halfway through the round, “The Reem” blasted Brock’s midsection with a brutal kick, sending the big man down in pain and agony.
From there it was all she wrote as he Overeem pounced on his downed opponent and delivered some finishing blows to put an end to the fight. After the fight, Lesnar retired from the sport due to his battle with diverticulitis.
Since then, Alistair has gone 8-6 inside the cage and is in search for his first back-to-back victories since 2017 when he takes on his former training partner in Russia.
