Robert Whittaker has some big ideas in mind for his UFC return to Sydney, Australia.
Robert Whittaker wants his title unification bout with Israel Adesanya to headline one of the biggest UFC pay-per-view events of the year.
In a recent Instagram post, the reigning middleweight champion proposed a blockbuster UFC event in his hometown of Sydney, Australia featuring not one but two title unification bouts.
Whittaker suggested his highly anticipated title fight versus Adesanya feature on the same card as the upcoming lightweight championship tilt between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.
“Great idea @royallmmanews Stadium in Sydney! v and v UFC___ #september #bookitdana #letsgo@mickmaynard2 Who’s in??” Whittaker posted on Tuesday.
The usually soft-spoken Whittaker has been very vocal since Adesanya’s epic win earlier this month, which saw ‘The Last Stylebender’ earn a gruelling decision over Kelvin Gastelum to capture the interim middleweight title in the UFC 236 co-main event. ‘The Reaper’ has predicted a quick and easy KO over Adesanya when they eventually meet in the Octagon.
As for Khabib vs. Poirier, it’s rumored that both men are in negotiations for a title bout in September. Poirier picked up the interim lightweight title after his career-defining performance against Max Holloway at UFC 236, which saw ‘The Diamond’ take home a unanimous decision in the main event.
