Sage Northcutt Becomes ‘Street Fighter’

When I first saw this title, I thought they were talking about Street Fighter on the actual Sega Genesis and not some goofy reboot of the Capcom franchise that in my opinion, represents the best fighting game ever made.

Anyway, it appears former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wunderkind Sage Northcutt, who recently signed with ONE Championship in Singapore, will be featured prominently in the 2020 release of “Genesis.”

I’m trying really hard to not be a dick, but watching these wholly unspectacular fight scenes play out in some nondescript warehouse or dimly-lit gym does not leave me feeling overly optimistic about the finished product.

I’m sure it can’t be worse than the 1994 abomination starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which is by no means Super Mario bad in terms of video game adaptations, but comes nowhere near the quality of the animated masterpiece directed by Gisabur? Sugii.

Chun Li vs. Vega? C’mon son.

There’s also the respectable “Assassin’s Fist” from a few years back that featured a solid showdown between Ken and Ryu. Where “Genesis” falls on the Street Fighter scale — using the aforementioned films as contrast — remains to be seen.

What say you?
