UFC welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio has yet to fight in 2019, but he does have an opponent in mind.

Could we see Santiago Ponzinibbio face “Showtime” next?

For whatever reason, we have yet to see Argentinian UFC welterweight contender fight in 2019, or even booked for an event. Despite numerous call-outs of Rafael dos Anjos, the UFC opted to book RDA against Kevin Lee, and several other top 170 lbs fighters are currently booked. Currently on Ponzinibbio’s radar is Anthony Pettis, who was last seen scoring a shocking superman punch KO of Stephen Thompson.

“[Anthony Pettis], there’s no way I’m going to allow you be ahead of me, come get this beating, you won’t get lucky like last time,” Ponzinibbio wrote on his Instagram page.

Ponzinibbio (27-3) is currently on a seven-fight winning streak, most recently putting on a striking clinic against Neil Magny last November, stopping his foe by fourth-round TKO in front of his home fans in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He’s also bested Mike Perry and Gunnar Nelson during his run of victories, and is currently #9 in the UFC’s rankings.

Pettis (22-8) made his welterweight debut in last month’s UFC Nashville main event. The former WEC and UFC lightweight champion, who’s also competed at featherweight, overcame a slow start to become the first man to stop “Wonderboy” in his career. Pettis has alternated between wins and losses over his last eight bouts, but beating Thompson has vaulted him into #8 in his new weight class.

Sounds like a logical call-out to me! Hopefully if the UFC does book it, they make it a five-round main event.
