A training injury has forced Tyler Combs out of his upcoming fight with Jorge Gurgel (13-7). The two were scheduled to meet this Saturday as part of the Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson event in Columbus, Ohio.
MMAWeekly.com reported the news Tuesday, confirming Combs’ withdrawal with sources close to the fight, noting that Strikeforce is currently searching for a last minute replacement and some sort of announcement is expected soon concerning the matchup.
Gurgel has lost his last two bouts and is 1-4 in his last five. The former UFC fighter joined Strikeforce after a seven fight stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship going 3-4 with the promotion. Under the Strikeforce banner, Gurgel earned a uannimous decision over Conor Heun at a Challengers event in June 2009, lost to Billy Evangelista at another Challengers show in November that same year, and lost his last fight to KJ Noons by knockout at the Strikeforce: Houston event in August of last year.
It’s not all bad news for Gurgel though, he recently married Bellator 115 lb female champ Zoila Frausto on Feb. 19.
