A UFC featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar is in the works for UFC 240.
After two unsuccessful bookings, Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar could finally be happening as the two are slated to fight at UFC 240 in July.
ESPN first reported the news, though the UFC is yet to make an official announcement. This is the third time this matchup has been booked, after Edgar was forced to pull out at UFC 218 in December 2017, and Holloway pulled out of the fight at UFC 222 in March of last year with a leg injury.
Holloway (20-4) is coming off his first loss in thirteen fights after dropping a unanimous decision to Dustin Poirier last month at UFC 236. That fight was at 155 pounds, so Holloway remained the featherweight champion. The Hawaiian’s last title defence came against Brian Ortega in December 2018, where ‘Blessed’ won by fourth-round TKO.
Edgar (23-6-1) hasn’t fought in over a year, last winning a unanimous decision against Cub Swanson in April 2018. Before that win, “The Answer” lost by knockout for the first time in his lengthy MMA career to Brian Ortega, who was filling in for the injured Holloway that night at UFC 222. This will be Edgar’s first shot at the 145-pound title since facing Jose Aldo for the belt in February 2013.
UFC 240 takes place on July 27th, most likely in Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. No other fights have been announced for the card.
