Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in search of a new headliner for its UFC on ESPN 3 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, scheduled for Sat., June 29, 2019 inside Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to ESPN.
That’s because ex-welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, suffered an undisclosed injury and was bounced from the card, leaving opponent and fellow former 170-pound kingpin, Robbie Lawler, without a date to the big dance.
Fortunately for the promotion, there’s still plenty of time to find a suitable replacement and several contending welterweights remain available (see them here), including Argentinian power-puncher, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and division fan favorite, Mike Perry.
It remains a hefty blow for Lawler, however, who was undoubtedly looking forward to avenging his UFC 201 loss to “The Chosen One” back in summer 2016. In addition, a Woodley victory would have likely gotten him right back into the title conversation.
Stay tuned for more on this developing story in the coming days.
