MMA veteran Rashad Evans to be inducted into UFC Hall of Fame

It was announced last night that MMA veteran Rashad Evans will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is the latest fighter to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

The seasoned mixed martial arts veteran will officially be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame’s Modern Wing on July 5, the premiere fight promotion announced during last night’s broadcast of UFC on ESPN+ 10 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.

Evans, 39, burst onto the scene in 2008, when he won season two of The Ultimate Fighter’s heavyweight tournament, beating Brad Imes via split decision in the tournament finale.

‘Suga’ soon dropped back down to light heavyweight, however, and went on a six-fight win streak before taking on then-champ Forrest Griffin for the light heavyweight title. Evans won the fight via third-round knockout but lost the title in his next bout, losing via first-round KO to Lyoto Machida.

Evans rebounded with four-straight wins enroute to another title shot, this time against former teammate turned rival Jon Jones, who beat Evans via unanimous decision. Following that loss Evans struggled to net more than two straight wins, losing six of his final eight bouts under the UFC banner.

The Florida-based fighter retired from the sport in 2018, after suffering a knockout loss to Anthony Smith at UFC 225.
