Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title contender, Yoel Romero, recently won a landmark lawsuit against Gold Star Performance Products, the sports supplement company behind the contaminated substance that was the root of his failed drug test back in 2016.
How much “Soldier of God” actually sees of that $27 million in damages, awarded as compensation for tainting his brand and costing him a 185-pound title fight, remains to be seen. But according to longtime rival, Michael Bisping, the red panties will be making an appearance in Cuba.
“I’m like, there’s no way fucking the ‘Soldier of Steroids’ has got $27.5 million,” Bisping said on his official podcast (via MMA News). “Anyway, it’s true. Yoel Romero sued whatever the company’s called and got $27.4 million. And ya know, red panty night for Yoel Romero. There must be a god. That’s all I’ve got to say on this. He got $27 million, which is incredible. And I’ll say this, me and Yoel we had a little thing over the years. Congratulations. If you’re listening to this, well done. That’s awesome.”
Bisping and Romero have been linked throughout the years, most notably when “The Count” captured the middleweight crown from Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 and spent the next year-and-a-half playing keep away.
The title eventually changed hands and the Brash Brit hung up the gloves, but Romero, 42, is still at the top of the contender list, expected to throw hands with the not-as-rich Paulo Costa at UFC 241 this August in Anaheim.
