In case you were wondering why Santiago Ponzinibbio has been absent from social media for the last week, it’s because the Argentinian has been battling with a nasty bacterial blood infection.

The streaking UFC welterweight contender was rushed to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery and spent a full week in recovery.

The 32-year-old has been released from the hospital and is currently recovering back at home.

The American Top Team product posted the following positive health update on social media.

“Hello friends, I have been absent from social media recently because I had emergency surgery and had to spend a week in the hospital but I’m in recovery mode. I’ll leave this funny video of when I woke up from anesthesia,” Ponzinibbio posted on Monday.

Ponzinibbio last fought in November, when he knocked out Neil Magny in the fourth round of the UFC Fight Night 140 main event in his native Argentina. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt is on an impressive seven-fight win streak and is currently ranked at #9 in the official UFC welterweight rankings.
