“His day will come and we will fight. Whether he wants to fight in a cage, octagon, or on the street – it’s going to happen either way.”
Streaking UFC welterweight Leon Edwards is adamant he will cross paths with Jorge Masvidal again.
‘Rocky’ got into a post-fight scuffle with Masvidal at UFC Fight Night 147, where ‘Gamebred’ blasted him with a three-punch combination backstage at London’s O2 Arena.
Rather than have both men settle their beef inside the Octagon, however, the UFC went ahead and booked a top contenders bout between ‘Gamebred’ and Ben Askren at UFC 239 in July.
Despite the booking, Edwards believes it’s only a matter of time until he gets his hands on Masvidal, whether it be in the cage or on the street.
“I feel the same way that I did the night it happened,” Edwards said in a recent interview with Cillian Cunningham of The Pundit Arena. I wanted the fight that badly, you know what I mean? I don’t understand why they didn’t make it. I wanted it, the fans wanted it, everybody wanted it.
“His day will come and we will fight. Whether he wants to fight in a cage, octagon, or on the street – it’s going to happen either way.”
Edwards, 27, is currently without an opponent but the Team Renegade fighter wants to fight top-three welterweight Rafael dos Anjos at the upcoming UFC 242 pay-per-view on Sept. 7. The PPV extravaganza takes place in Abu Dhabi and will feature a headlining lightweight title unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.
