Pedro Munhoz is eyeing up bantamweight gold if he is to get past Aljamain Sterling this weekend at UFC 238.
Pedro Munhoz hopes Marlon Moraes defeats Henry Cejudo to become the new bantamweight champion this weekend at UFC 238 to set-up a title fight for himself and ‘Magic’ in November.
Munhoz (18-3, 1NC) is unbeaten in his last three fights, most recently knocking out Cody Garbrandt at UFC 235 in March. The 32-year-old will fight Aljamain Sterling on the UFC 238 prelims, so he will need a win in that fight to warrant a shot at the winner of the bantamweight title fight between Cejudo and Moraes.
Talking to MMA Junkie, Munhoz expressed his interest in fighting for the belt at UFC on ESPN+ 21, which takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil in November.
“They don’t have a main card, so hopefully goes well on Saturday, and Marlon and myself is going to be for the next title fight,” Munhoz said.
“I deserved the title shot after (my) knockout of Cody Garbrandt,” Munhoz said. “But I understand the reasons they didn’t do a title shot.”
Going back and forth on Twitter in the lead up to the fight, Munhoz said the pre-fight talk with Sterling has just made the fight that bit more personal for him.
“It’s not personal,” Munhoz said. “Actually, I take that back. Every fight for me is personal. For the fact that he said something about me, that didn’t make it more personal. Every single fight for me is personal.”
