How did capturing a second UFC title affect Henry Cejudo’s ranking on the pound-for-pound list?
UFC 238 was nice to a few fighters, and saw the ushering in of new talent in a couple of divisions. It also saw another champ champ being crowned in Henry Cejudo. The flyweight champ added to his collection by claiming the bantamweight title as well, stopping Marlon Moraes in the third round. But despite his claims as “Triple C” and being the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, Cejudo didn’t move at all in the P4P rankings. He’s still third-best in the world, at least for now.
Meanwhile, Calvin Kattar and Petr Yan fully announced their presence with great performances, and Shevchenko inched up the P4P list a bit with a highlight-reel head kick KO.
Here’s a look at all the official UFC rankings changes coming out of UFC 238.
P4P – As mentioned, Cejudo stays put at number three behind Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Valentina Shevchenko is up one to 13, bumping Tyron Woodley to 14.
Heavyweight – Blagoy Ivanov is up two spots to 11 after beating Tai Tuivasa. Tuivasa falls one to 12, while Marcin Tybura falls one to 13.
Light Heavyweight – Nikita Krylov re-enters the rankings at 14.
Middleweight – No changes.
Welterweight – No changes.
Lightweight – Kevin Lee and Anthony Pettis flip-flop the eight and nine spot at 155, despite both of them fighting at 170 last and seemingly for the near future.
Featherweight – Kattar is up big after knocking Ricardo Lamas’ block off. He’s up six spots from 15 to 9. Mirsad Bektic is down one to ten. Lamas drops three into a tie for 13th. Darren Elkins falls one to 15.
Bantamweight – The division was re-shaped a bit by UFC 238. Aljamain Sterling moves up a spot to two after a very nice win over Pedro Munhoz. Raphael Assuncao fell one to three. Petr Yan’s big win over Jimmie Rivera saw him move up five spots from nine to four. Five fighters – Munhoz, Dominick Cruz, Cody Garbrandt, Rivera, and Cory Sandhagen – all fell one spot as a result. They sit at five through nine respectively.
Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Bantamweight – No changes.
Women’s Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Strawweight – Cynthia Calvillo moved up one to ten. Alexa Grasso’s best UFC performance to date moves her up two spots to 11. The lady she beat, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, fell three spots to 13.
