“Above the Shadows,” which won an “Audience Award” at the Brooklyn Film Festival, premieres July 19.
So what we have in this movie trailer is a story about a struggling MMA fighter who conveniently crosses paths with a girl who just so happens to be invisible to everyone in the world … except him.
Yes, this is a love story.
But you can’t market a love story to MMA fans, so the producers have shoehorned former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz, into the script as the formidable “Attila,” which could be an homage to Lionheart, or a ripoff, depending on your take.
In addition, Megan Fox has also joined the party, presumably to do the same thing Ortiz is doing; namely, attract viewers who may not find much appeal in the leading lady, or the stiff they have propped up to support her. Sadly, the Jim Gaffigan cameo does not appear to be a comedic role.
Ortiz, 44, is expected to make his combat sports return at some point in October.
