Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) invaded Bon Secours Wellness Arena last night (Sat., June 22, 2019) as UFC Fight Night 154 took place inside in Greenville, South Carolina. In the headlining act, Chan Sung Jung starched Renato Moicano, knocking him out in under a minute (highlights). Also, Andrea Lee dominated Montana de la Rosa to score her seventh straight win.
Biggest Winner: The Korean Zombie
Since making his return to action, Jung has looked great, taking out Dennis Bermudez, schooling Yair Rodriguez before this Hail Mary knockout, and now knocking out top Featherweight contender Renato Moicano. Jung looked crisp and sharp and that right hook was as clean as a whistle. And just like that, “The Korean Zombie” reminded everyone why he is still an exciting and dangerous fighter. Plus, he’s $50,000 richer thanks to his performance bonus. If he can keep it up, he could find himself in the middle of the title conversation with few more solid wins.
Runner Up: Jairzinho Rozenstruick
Jairzinho had himself another impressive outing in his sophomore effort inside the Octagon, knocking out Allen Crowder in just nine seconds (see it again here). There isn’t much to dissect here, but Rozenstruick is determined to add some new, fresh blood into the Heavyweight division, as he also scored an impressive knockout win in his UFC debut by knocking out Junior Albini. While he still has a way to go, Jairzinho shows promise and can do big things if he keeps trucking along. At 8-0 with seven knockouts, Jairzinho is a nice addition to the big man class.
Biggest Loser: Renato Moicano
The once-potential title contender is taking on water fast, as he has now lost two in a row, both of them via knockout. His loss to “The Korean Zombie” is particularly damaging as it took less than a minute for Jung to take him out.
Look, losing to Jose Aldo and Jung is nothing to be ashamed of, but if you want to climb the ladder and get a whiff of a title fight, those are the types of fights you have to win. Unfortunately, Moicano has come up short both times in big opportunities, back-to-back, which won’t be easy to forget. Now, Renato will have to step up his game quite a bit as he has a huge hole to dig himself out of.
