Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
I would like to formally introduce MMAmania.com readers to Vasily Kamotsky.
This highlight clip posted by Eryk Anders — fresh off his own monstrous knockout win — served as my introduction to Kamotsky, whose name was mentioned in the comments. Some top-tier journalism work from yours truly (read: I googled him), lead me to this article by The Guardian, which proved illuminating.
A 28-year-old farmer in Siberia, Kamotsky rose to international internet fame when his friends convinced him to take part in a slapping competition while at a weight lifting convention. Kamotsky — whose fighting nickname “pelmen” is a type of Siberian dumpling — may have only attended the meet as a spectator, but he more than rose to the occasion, securing two knockout wins and winning the sideshow event.
For his success, Kamotsky was awarded roughly $470.
Russia is on the forefront of the martial arts scene in every way. The invasion of the “Ovs” began with Khabib Nurmagomedov and continues each day, with more and more athletes from that part of the globe crossing the sea and spin kicking anyone who dares stand in their path. On the more experimental side, Russia leads the pack when it comes to team vs. team MMA or pitting two smaller fighters against one larger one simultaneously.
Midnight Mania salutes their efforts.

I have a hard time seeing Holly Holm get her hand raised unless she finds a way to kick Nunes in the face. Luckily, she’s working just that!
I joked after his last win that Rountree was ready for Lumpinee Boxing Stadium — mostly because it rhymed, and I needed a headline for his section. Last night, he actually attended the legendary venue.
Speaking of, Light Heavyweights better watch their legs.
UFC just dropped another standard fight poster, but I’m still thinking about what could’ve been…

A very common kickboxing drill is to counter whatever is thrown with two punches and a kick — here’s why!

Midnight music: Back to the early ‘60s as I continue working through 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, this time with some pleasant modal jazz from the Bill Evans Trio.
Sleep well Maniacs! There’s always more martial arts madness on the way.
