The 29-year old was 12-4 under the promotion’s banner …
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has reportedly parted ways with Flyweight sometimes Bantamweight Brazilian slugger, John Lineker, after a successful 16-fight tenure with the world’s premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organization, according to MMAJunkie.com.
“Hands of Stone” is without question one of the most entertaining fighters in the sport. He’s also without question one of the better ones, with 31 wins to 9 losses under his belt — 18 of them coming via (technical) knockout or submission. The third, and final statement one can make in this vein is that he is undoubtedly one of the most frustrating fighters UFC has had to deal with since he debuted back in 2012 (outside of DUI manslaughter, domestic disputes, more domestic disputes, yet another domestic dispute, even more domestic disputes, neo-Nazis, cocaine abusers, hit and runs, fighters embarrassing themselves in the cage … you know, anything but normal stuff).
In that timespan, Lineker has missed weight an astonishing five times, and had to pull out of four other fights. Feel free to refresh yourself on his weight issues here, here, here and here, as well as recap his various health mishaps here, here and here. Add that to the fact that he publicly called out UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby and UFC president Dana White on social media earlier this year, demanding his release if they didn’t like him or his style.
Nevertheless, there will be numerous companies most likely vying for his entertaining services, and there are plenty of intriguing match ups for him, such as Kyoji Horiguchi, Demetrious Johnson, Takeru, Rotdang and Darrion Caldwell, among many others.
Social media was aflame at this news overnight and reacted as such:
Meh, on second thought, we don’t really want this guy. https://t.co/qwX4voxdyC
