“Out of all the people I’ve trained with, I think overall, Masvidal might be the best.”

Retired UFC veteran Yves Edwards thinks Ben Askren has his work cut out for him against Jorge Masvidal.

Askren and Masvidal will lock horns in a pivotal welterweight matchup this Saturday at UFC 239 and, speaking to Joe Rogan on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Edwards hailed ‘Gamebred’ as one of the best fighters he’s had the privilege of training with at American Top Team.

“Out of all the people I’ve trained with, I think overall, Masvidal might be the best,” Edwards said, per BJPenn.com’s Natasha Hooper. “His boxing is some of the best in the sport of mixed martial arts. He’s not a kickboxer but he’s confident and comfortable with all the kicks.”

“His wrestling is way beyond a guy who never wrestled. He’s like Division One level at the very least. His Jiu-Jitsu, people sleep on his Jiu-Jitsu. Masvidal is legit on the ground.”

Masvidal, 34, earned his matchup with Askren after scoring a stunning second-round knockout of betting favorite Darren Till at UFC London and it’s expected that the winner will go on to challenge Kamaru Usman for the official welterweight title.

UFC 239, which features Masvidal vs. Askren on the main card, takes place this Saturday, July 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
