“It’s gonna be painful. I don’t know what round, but it’s gonna be painful.”
Ben Askren is expecting a ‘pretty simple’ and straightforward fight against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239, but the former ONE FC and Bellator welterweight champion could be in for a rude awakening.
Masvidal, who has threatened to end Askren’s family bloodline, is planning to dismantle ‘Funky’ in painful and brutal fashion on July 6.
“We’re gonna do it painfully and brutally,” Masvidal said at Wednesday’s UFC 239 pre-fight workouts, per MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee. “That’s for sure. I don’t like this dude as everybody here knows, so it’s gonna be brutal. It’s gonna be painful. I don’t know what round, but it’s gonna be painful.”
Masvidal, a former bare-knuckle fighter from the streets of Miami, Florida, last fought at UFC Fight Night 146 where he knocked out Darren Till at London’s O2 Arena.
‘Gamebred’ plans to finish Askren in similar fashion but warned the former two-promotion champ that he may not regain consciousness after hitting the canvas.
“This is different,” Masvidal said. “Darren Till woke up eventually, I don’t know if brother’s going to wake up.”
UFC 239, which features Masvidal vs. Askren on the main card, takes place this Saturday, July 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
