Amanda Nunes established herself as the greatest female mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter to ever step foot inside the Octagon by knocking out Holly Holm at the UFC 239 pay-per-view (PPV) event last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada (highlights).
And cageside color commentator, Joe Rogan, had the best reaction.
The first-round head kick by “Lioness,” a move “The Preacher’s Daughter” used multiple times across her cage fighting career, capped off an incredible run that also featured finishes over Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Cristiane Justino.
And Nunes (18-4) is still just 31 and in her fighting prime.
“She cemented her position as the greatest female MMA fighter of all time by knocking out former champion Holly Holm with her preferred technique of a head kick,” Rogan said after the fight (transcribed by BJPenn.com). “It was an amazing performance and an amazing display of dominance by the greatest female MMA fighter of all time.”
No telling what comes next for the power-punching Brazilian. There’s talk of a potential Justino rematch at 145 pounds; however, that will depend on whether or not “Cyborg” re-ups with UFC after completing the final fight of her current deal at UFC 240 later this month in Edmonton.
Stay tuned.
