Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was at it again last night (Sat., July 13, 2019) as UFC Fight Night 155 invaded Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA. Headlining the ESPN+-streamed event was a woman’s Bantamweight fight that saw Germaine de Randamie end Aspen Ladd in just 16 seconds in via technical knockout (TKO). In the co-main event, Urijah Faber knocked out Ricky Simon in under a minute (see it again here) in what was his comeback fight after a two-year retirement.
Winner: Germaine de Randamie
Who She Should Fight Next: Amanda Nunes
In the last seven years, Germaine’s lone loss has come against Nunes, and now that “Iron Lady” has won five straight, it’s time to run it back. This time, however, the Bantamweight title will be on the line. Germaine doesn’t want to wait around too long, so she has no issue taking another fight in the interim.
But since Nunes dispatched of Holly Holm rather quickly, the wait time shouldn’t be too bad. That is, of course, if UFC doesn’t find a way to book Nunes vs Cyborg 2 at Featherweight.
Winner: Urijah Faber
Who He Should Fight Next: Pedro Munhoz
It’s real easy to get caught up in Faber’s impressive knockout win over Ricky Simon, and wanting him to fight Henry Cejudo next. But that simply shouldn’t happen. Cejudo won’t fight for another seven or eight months, meaning that the real top contenders such as Joseph Benavidez (135 pounds) and Aljamain Sterling (145 pounds) can either play the waiting game or take another fight.
As for Faber, I don’t see him waiting that long to fight again, so I’d like to see him face off against Pedro Munoz next. Pedro is coming off a loss to Sterling, and it would be a good chance for Faber to get one back for his teammate, Cody Garbrandt.
Winner: Josh Emmett
Who He Should Fight Next: Chan Sung Jung
Winner of two straight via knockout, Emmett should be paired up against “The Korean Zombie” next. Jung is coming off a one-minute destruction of Renato Moicano, so he should be ready to make a return rather quickly.
Both men like to bang, so this one should be pretty entertaining standup war. The two are only four separated by four spots on the rankings list, so I don’t see any problem with booking this next. It’s a good win for whoever proves victorious in their quests to fight for the title.
Winner: Karl Roberson
Who He Should Fight Next: Marvin Vettori
Both 185-pound combatants proved victorious in Sacramento, With Roberson edging out Wellington Turman via split decision, and Vettori defeating Cezar Ferreira via unanimous decision. I you look at their UFC careers thus far, they are virtually identical. Roberson is 3-2, while Vettori is 3-2-1. It simply makes sense. Both men are looking to break into the top 15, and while a win over the other won’t necessarily get them there, it will be a step closer.
Winner: Marvin Vettori
