In a few short weeks Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm (15-1) will face one of the toughest opponents of his career when he meets DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki (26-5, 1NC) on April 9 on the Showtime televised card of Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley.
Beerbohm, who has fought in and out of Strikeforce over his sixteen pro fight career, recently suffered his first loss, dropping a unanimous decision to Pat Healy last month headlining a Strikeforce Challengers show.
Despite the loss, it hasn’t appeared to have affected “Fancy Pants” mindset as he prepares to meet the Japanese star, the only difficulty he’s faced is finding a training partner that’s able to step in as Aoki’s double.
“He’s a weird Jiu-Jitsu guy. He’s tall and lanky. Aoki’s really flexible. It’s really hard to find someone who trains like him…You got to fight Aoki really, really smart. My submission defense will be really key. I am going to punch him in the face. I train as much as my body will let me. I don’t have a set schedule. I don’t have coaches. I run my own practices. I have to call my training practices. If I feel good then I go ahead and call my guys.”
Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley is expected to take place on April 9 at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California and will mark the first event under the promotions new owners Zuffa.
