There is a new movie dropping this Friday, July 19, called Above The Shadows, and it stars UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz, Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Jim Gaffigan, as well as many others. The former UFC light heavyweight champion Ortiz plays the character ‘Atilla Matte,’ the rival of MMA fighter ‘Shayne,’ played by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ Alan Ritchson.
There is a new movie dropping this Friday, July 19, called Above The Shadows, and it stars UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz, Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Jim Gaffigan, as well as many others. The film was written and directed by Claudia Meyers, creator of Fort Bliss and Kettle of Fish. The story details an invisible girl who reignites the career of a retired MMA fighter. Yes, she is invisible and the combat sports athlete is the only one who can see her. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Ortiz plays the character ‘Atilla Matte,’ the rival of MMA fighter ‘Shayne,’ played by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ Alan Ritchson. In the above video, Ortiz admits to the parallels between the character he plays and his own personal life. This isn’t the first time that “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” has appeared on the big screen. He has also been involved with such works as Cradle 2 the Grave, The Crow: Wicked Prayer, and Silencer, alongside fellow UFC legend, Chuck Liddell.
It was recently announced that the 20-12-1 Ortiz will remain active as a professional MMA fighter, and will compete against former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio in Combate Americas promotion on a date yet to be released. The 44-year-old MMA pioneer is currently on a two-fight winning streak. He first submitted Chael Sonnen in just over two-minutes back in January of 2017, and then recently got his revenge on Chuck Liddell by knocking him out in the first round back in November of 2018.
Ortiz will be joining director, Claudia Meyers, for a Q & A this Friday, July 19, at the Arena Cinelounge Hollywood in Los Angeles, California at 9:30pm. Tickets for this are available on the Arena Cinelounge Hollywood’s website.
