Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) invaded San Antonio, Texas last night (Sat., July 20, 2019) to stage UFC on ESPN 4 from inside AT&T Center, which featured a Welterweight bout that saw Leon Edwards outclass Rafael dos Anjos after 25 minutes of action (see it). In the co-main event, Walt Harris made quick work of Aleksei Oleinik, knocking him out in just 12 seconds.
Biggest Winner: Leon Edwards
Let’s start putting some respect on Leon’s name, as the man has now won eight straight, with consecutive wins over Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson and now Rafael dos Anjos. Leon put on a pretty flawless performance last night, as he was simply too tactical, too crisp with his striking and wasted no movement or punches to earn the clear-cut win over “RDA.”
Afterward, “Rocky” called out Jorge Masvidal – not surprisingly – but it’s a fight that he likely won’t get next, as much as I, and everyone else wants to see it. Jorge is holding out for a title shot now that Conor McGregor is out of the question. Still, Leon should break into the top 10, which is long overdue, and should get a big matchup up next.
Runner Up: Walt Harris
Harris made quick work of Aleksei Oleinik, ending his night in just 12 seconds via a couple of well-placed strikes (highlights). That is now three straight wins over “Big Ticket,” which would’ve been four had his win over Andrei Arlovski not been overturned due to his failed drug test.
With the 265-pound division being wide open, Harris can find himself in big matchups moving forward. All six of Walt’s wins inside the Octagon have come via knockout. Better yet, all 13 of his wins have come via stoppage due to strikes, so the man hits clean and hard and is a threat to any big man ready to sign on the dotted line.
Biggest Loser: Juan Adams
After finally getting the fight he wanted against Greg Hardy, Juan Adams didn’t do much with his opportunity, as “The Prince of War” steamrolled him in just 45 seconds via strikes.
What amplifies the loss is the fact that Adams had talked up a good game and vowed to teach the former NFL-star a lesson in levels of mixed martial arts (MMA). But after getting stuffed on a takedown and taking countless of blows to the head, Juan didn’t even make the effort to get out of the bad position he was in. Instead he just ate shot after shot, giving Hardy his second straight knockout win and bragging rights for days. That is also now two straight losses for Juan, who has a big hole to dig himself out of after starting his professional MMA career at 5-0.
