Bellator 227, which is scheduled to take place at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 27, 2019, has a new name and main event. Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran, Myles Jury, recently signed with Bellator MMA, and the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion wasted no time finding a suitable opponent.
Coincidentally, he’s a long-time UFC veteran himself: Ben Henderson.
Henceforth Bellator 227 shall be called, “Henderson vs. Jury,” and will be offered as a tape-delayed broadcast on Paramount Network (simulcast on DAZN), while the previously announced “Gallagher vs. Ellenor” bout will take place the same night on a Bellator: “Dublin” card exclusive to Channel 5 (United Kingdom) and the Bellator mobile app (United States).
Jury (18-4) earned the nickname “Fury” for scoring eight knockouts in his 18 wins (44 percent). Having fought in UFC since 2012, his departure caught many by surprise, but after trading pairs of wins and losses inside the Octagon, the time was perhaps ripe for Jury to test the waters elsewhere.
After a rough start to his Bellator MMA career, Henderson (26-8) has had a resurgence of late, notching three straight wins in one of the promotion’s toughest divisions. Although Jury is five years younger at 30, “Smooth” has long been among the most elite fighters at 155 pounds and is both a former World Extrema Cagefighting (WEC) and UFC Lightweight champion.
