Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
The bond between Max Holloway and his son, Rush, has been one of the absolute best parts of Holloway’s reign as champion. “Mini Blessed” is cage side for all of his father’s fights and most of his public appearances, which has proven at interesting journey for the young Hawaiian. When Holloway faced Brian Ortega, it was Rush who signaled to his father to finish things.
However, Holloway’s last appearance in the cage wasn’t such a fun trip, as a bloodied up Holloway lost a pretty violent fight to Dustin Poirier. It was a new experience for Rush, who was consoled by Shaq after the bout.
In short, “Mini Blessed” has grown into a fan favorite and brought the entertainment to his father’s media day workout. Check it out:
Wait for it ….

It’s always cool to see a smart strategy play out successfully.
I really can’t say I expected this after all the trash Adams talked.

Anyone else feel like slow-mo is still underutilized in the fight world? Nothing like a good face ripple.

Health and Fitness
For a bit of extra curricular writing and some cool insight into fighter fitness, I wanted to write a brief section about my experience at DexaFit Folsom yesterday. Dexafit specializes in body and fitness testing, the type popular with a lot of fighters as well as those looking to lose weight. As I’m currently in a fight camp, it’s very helpful to know information like body fat percentage (particularly while cutting to 125 lbs. for the first time in a few years), lactic threshold, and all sorts of other body composition tests for my strength and conditioning program.
The highlight, though, is definitely the V02 max test, which is the measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen a person can utilize during exercise. To test it, you’re hooked up to a mask that measures your oxygen intake and told to run. Every couple minutes, the incline and speed increase until the treadmill wins. I don’t have a video of myself running it, but a few of my team mates competed against each other a couple months ago.
It was a really informative experience, and I’m excited to go back and try to beat my numbers in the future!

No matter how Niko Price’s fight goes this weekend, this will forever be one of the wildest knockouts in UFC history.

Thanks “Black Beast.”
Midnight Music: Mac Miller’s 2014 mixtape Faces is objectively way too long, but that’s an easy enough flaw to overlook. It came out at a time when a lot of very young and very talented rappers were releasing really great mixtapes, and Faces confirmed Mac Miller fit that bill with the darkest, druggiest release of his career.
